Wanika At Work For All Of Us!Protecting our children is a top priority! I stood with Governor Larry Hogan, Speaker Adrienne Jones, and Senate President Bill Ferguson as SB 17 was signed into law. This first in the nation legislation requires the Maryland Judiciary, in consultation with domestic violence and child abuse organizations to develop and update as appropriate a training program for judges.

Mary’s Center celebrated its 10th year Anniversary at its Adelphi Health Center in Prince George’s county. Mary’s center is a major health care provider for my district. Partnering with them over years, especially during the last two years helping provide vaccines to our most affected community!

Access to Counsel in Evictions Special Fund

MD Housing Justice Bills Update: Access to Counsel is FUNDED! SB662 requires the Comptroller to distribute $14,000,000 of certain abandoned property funds to the Access to Counsel in Evictions Special Fund for the fiscal year 2024 and requires the Governor to include in the annual budget bill an appropriation of $14,000,000 from the Fund to the Maryland Legal Services Corporation for the fiscal year 2024.

This year, Democrats in the legislature used our record surplus to reinvest in
the community. The legislature provided record funding to improve parks and playgrounds, transportation and infrastructure, and other community resources. These capital projects will make critical improvements and create thousands of good-paying
union jobs across the state and keep Maryland’s economy going strong.

Maryland Democrats are delivering on the promise of creating healthier Maryland communities by making health care more affordable and accessible.
